Satanic Messiah (Redux)

January 6th, 2009 by Dean

We’re very tempted to go on and on quoting Immortal lyrics about the return of the dark lord but instead here’s a simple announcement…

We found a VERY SMALL box of the Mountain Goats’ "Satanic Messiah EP" in our warehouse (aka the Nephalic Frosty Den of Unholy Storage) and made them available on our online store. One copy per customer and once they’re gone they’re gone.

Purchase HERE. Remember, domestic orders over $50 get FREE SHIPPING!

RIP Sparks, Godspeed Guru

December 18th, 2008 by Adam F

MillerCoors today announced the discontinuation of my green poop-maker beverage of choice, SparksTM.   All we have to ask is how the hell do you expect blog-sponsored DJ nights to get anyone out on a Tuesday?

Guru…it’s all up to you now.  Keep the dream alive or else my caffeine column on this blog will go away like so many green poops you given me over the months.

Full story up on some NBC nightlife website dedicated to the DC scene and it has some amazing terms that Sparks just can’t seem to get their head around:

- Stop using images that imply power (battery-themed +/- symbols on the can) and that appeal to underage youth to market the product.
- Not renewing its contract with William Ocean, a MillerCoors-sponsored air guitarist who back flips onto an opened can of Sparks at his shows.
- Immediately discontinue the Sparks website.
- Reformulate Sparks brand products without caffeine or other stimulants and agreed not to produce any other caffeinated alcohol beverages in the future.

I believe the Sparks marketing team saw that and in unison replied "fuck it".

El Guincho appears on XLR8R TV

December 10th, 2008 by Todd N

While in San Francisco on his recent US tour, El Guincho was lucky enough to sit down (ok stand around) with XLR8R TV to discuss the Canary Islands, his musical influences and life in general.  Well enough with what we have to say, El Guincho can speak for himself.   Enjoy!

Friendly Fires in NYC

December 4th, 2008 by Claire T

As promised, Friendly Fires Update Part Two.

After what should prove to be a rollicking show at Spaceland on 12/7, the guys are heading back to NYC for two shows on Tuesday, 12/9. This includes a free in-store at Virgin Union Square followed by a gig at The Annex with special guests, Lemonade.

But wait; there’s icing on this cake.

If you pick up a wristband at the Union Square performance and show it at The Annex show later that night you’re eligible for free booze. Free booze, people (while supplies last, must be 21+, etc).

Check out the below flyer for more show details. There wasn’t enough time to include marsupials or TexMex, however I think it gets the message across.
